Most animal welfare organizations keep their goals local and modest, recognizing that it is better to succeed modestly than to fail entirely. In 1988 Dallas philanthropist Annie Lee Roberts founded the Summerlee Foundation, and, in association with the Animal Protection Institute and United Animal Nations-USA, founded the Annie Lee Roberts Emergency Animal Rescue Service fund to improve animal protection and to alleviate fear, pain and suffering among animals.
